who needs 8gb, sheesh. i barely use 2gb of my 4gb of ram as it is. even using photoshop, I have never seen it max out.It is dirt cheap and you do not get much of a price benefit purchasing lower density DIMMs.

Depending on the speed 4 GB x 2 hovers around the $59-99 sweet spot. I remember buying my 4 GB back in 2007 and this was in the age of 1 GB in Apple's notebooks.

Better battery life on laptops. I hear that 10.7 will be able to use Li-Ion batteries.

What century are you living in? we've moved passed Li-ion; onto Li-po's now. Do you even know what an OS is?

The phone looks good but I don't like the seeing the sensor like that all the time. This whole is that a parking lot or is he driving debate, I can't really tell but I do see his RPM meter not at zero looks like it's close to 10 so he could be idle somewhere?
It's a parking lot and the shot was obviously taken when the sun is still far above the horizon.

A couple of FYIs - A few people expressed interest in meeting again today at the Horseshoe. There's a "Best of Show" event that ends at 3:45, so the meet-up prolly won't happen until around 4:00.

If I make it today it will probably be on the late side. We decided to take the ferry over to Sausalito this morning.

Sounds like a plan, I'll probably see if I can make it to the Best of Show too so 4:00 seems better for today.

You can make an avchd edit and then when you have a picture lock, go back to the original, transcode automatically the footage you need, do your color correction and effects with the better files and export a pro res file or whatever you need.

The only benefit to transcoding prior to effects/grading would be to aid system performance. It will not result in better image quality.

You know, all I personally want is to see Apple fitting a Merom inside a MacBook (non-pro, yes)... I mean, why shouldn't they do that?

Sure, back in the PowerPC days, the differentiation made by Apple between their consumer and professional lines was based both on features AND processors... In a way, it made some sense, as the supply of PowerPC chips was sometimes constrained... Since the G3, G4 and G5 families were alternately produced by IBM and Moto-Freescale, that was less of a problem, as the consumer line would never cannibalize supply for the professional line and vice-versa. I know I'm speculating here, but it sure makes some sense. And, of course, they avoided not only cannibalization on the component supply front, but also on the sales front...

Anyway... This worked fine back when Apple was, platform-wise, isolated from the rest of the other computer manufacturers. Now they can't afford to lose customers to other brands (and as much as OS X is an attractive proposition, most potential switchers won't take the plunge if they feel they are REALLY being ripped-off), and let's face it: if the Core 2 Duo processors will, as it appears, cost the same as their Core Duo counterparts did when they were launched, why shouldn't Apple slap them across the board? They could always deplete their stock of Core Duo processors on their Mac mini line, while lowering them to their original $499 and $599 pricetags...

Just my €0,02... It's true, I'll have to get my hands on a MacBook until the end of September, so this is mostly wishful thinking :o . Anyway, am I too off-base? (I'm guessing not...).

Were industry analysts the ones speculating on that like Shaw Wu is on this?

it looks like Apple is expanding by going down instead of up and that's part of the source of concern and disappointment from many current users.

Heard the same thing before the first iPad was ever released. But it is wildly popular.

if it is true, please make it multi network compatible. I am sick of the bait and switch crap to get phone users to switch network providers, just to have an other provider come out with an other hot feature (or phone), that is exclusive to them too.

    I hate cell phone contracts!

Look up Binaural sound. Sound these days can be mixed in such a way that, when output through a nice set of headphones, the effect is completely 3-dimensional. The sound technicians do all the fun stuff for you.

It's really impressive, honestly. I've played with it a bit. Almost too real.
i will check it out. but the question is, would we really want it in headphones at all? it would make us a little freaked out if it really sounded real, and it would take away our ability to differentiate between sound coming from the headphones and sound coming from around you, which would be a little scary.

Xserve lags so far behind the Mac Pro in release, costs much more, has little to make it better and just as much to make it worse. I would love to have an Xserve, but I don't understand why anyone would buy one.

Do a little research and you will find this is a incredibly well engineered server. I have read a couple reviews and it looks like it will be a big hit with IT pros. That may not be easily understood, or appreciated by others.

That's not a good argument. You forget that this is not a feature. It's a matter of privacy and how iOS uses your data.

So, to me, Apple must give a fix to 3G users too
. They can send iPhone 3G users a 4.2.2 for example.

Did the original iPhone get the Safari fix or signal bar fix from 4.0.1 or 4.0.2?
Exactly. I dont care if it's not "a good argument," you should know that when an iPhone is dropped of support, it will never get fixes again. That is just how apple is.

Just matching CPU speeds is like comparing Fords and Porsches based on horsepower ratings. If a person who wants a fast car can't see the value in a Porsche then by all means get a Ford.
If each computer used a custom CPU, then your comparison would have merit. But we're talking about computer vendors that use identical CPU's from Intel.
Has anyone looked at where their Mac Pro is "assembled"? The one I bought last year is "assembled in USA". I don't know what factor labor costs in putting these together, but I'm sure it's more than China.
All the MP's are made in China (Hon Hai Precision, aka Foxconn, is the ODM supplier to Apple for the MP - the actual production and assembly work is done in Shenzen, though the company is headquartered in Taiwan).

The final assembly for a CTO would be done in the USA for an order meant to be delivered in North America. For Europe, it's done in Ireland.
it should be noted that the Dell price includes a discount , which apple never seems to do.
Dell, HP and other PC vendors are willing to use discounts and/or incentives to help move systems, and I've even gotten better pricing over the phone than the web site on numerous occasions over the years.

So picking up the phone would be a good idea IMO.

Before the update my MBP would beachball everytime it tried to wake up from sleep forcing a hard restart. It's been three days since installing and I am prepared to say the the update has fixed the problem. :)

Although my experience has been positive, the track record of this update does not seem too good. I personally have not noticed any increase in temp. Processor whine was always there and can still be silenced with Quiet MBP.
