Is it me, or Apple is also offering new 750 Gb Hard drives as an option for Mac Pros and iMacs?

Wonder if there are any other surprises hiding amoung the spec pages?

Right, and Cocoa isn't the slightest bit bloated? (can you say runtime messaging and binding overhead?)

I'm not saying that the actual virtualization should be done in Cocoa (ha yeah right), but the GUI definitely should. Parallels takes way too long to launch, and the GUI sucks.

Plus, do you really think a Qt C++ wrapper around Carbon is faster than direct Cocoa calls?

I just want a nice documented-based Cocoa app that behaves like a Mac app, with a fast virtualization at its core :)

Even more entertaining is the fact that Apple is so arrogant they fail to realize how stupid they look.

    Suing their biggest vendor.

It doesn't get any more stupid than that.

The only stupid thing Apple did was to not realize that other companies are copying their designs left and right. Samsung has always been the worst of all. They copy everything. It is in their nature to do so. Look at everything they make. It is all a copycat in one form or another.

It's really disconcerting that so many of the UI changes that Apple has made over the past few OS X iterations have seemed rather arbitrary. Cosmetic improvements are fine (though I think that this look for iCal would be a major step backward), but they should be concentrating on functionality, speed, reliability, and security. If I'm going to give up Rosetta for OS 10.7, I'd like to get a lot more than eye candy.

I always wonder why people decide to respond to the post below mine which says the same thing but with less proof...

Above I said the same thing with a specific example. It's not as fun to argue with someone who makes a good argument though, is it?

    http://techcrunch.com/2009/03/25/apples-iphone-app-refund-policies-could-bankrupt-developers/

Great you posted some blog with an interesting interpretation of potential issues with the contract. Do you have any evidence that this policy has been enforced?

Why would you buy a product you're not impressed with? "Man, this iPod sucks so hard. *drool* I think I'll buy it!" Is this some kind of new teenage lingo? :D

Sometimes I buy products I'm not impressed with to impress the people who don't understand my cool new teenage lingo.

The day that I have to go out and buy virus protection for OS X is the day I consider going back to Windows.

Switching to Windows because you have to use antivirus software on your Mac would just be like jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.

During the 15 years or so that Macs were around before the advent of OS X, most Mac users had antivirus software running on their computers. It was necessary, it was no big deal, and it was certainly no reason to start using a Windows box.

Based on the verdict of the markets it would seem that Apple's potential is not so great...but you know better than that right ;)

When stocks are being discussed from now on, please remove yourself from the proceedings.

It was mostly the decline in iPod growth rate, but as someone said here, the market is just becoming saturated. You can thank Apple's insistence on using non user-replaceable batteries and such for sustaining
some product momentum at least. You'll always have a good 10% (or so) of the market or so that replaces things ONLY when what they have ceases to work. This is where what I noted above begins to actually positively impact sales figures.

I'm just getting this weird feeling that the baseline will be about 100. I expect a mild resurgence in the next couple weeks, nowhere near 200 or anything, but at least a 10% jump. Then I look for it to tumble down, where I will hopefully pick up some more at around 100. Of course, no one should take my complete speculation as actual advice, this is just the gut feeling I'm getting from the stock right now.

I definitely disagree with you there. Many companies will remove features to differentiate their product lineups, and provide an incentive to buy high end products. Think Intel, could add hyperthreading and turbo boost to every processor they make for a relatively small cost, but they don't and disable features so they can market you an i7 or i5 instead of a 'lowly' i3. Think auto makers, many will offer a bigger engine along with many low cost trim upgrades as a 'sport' package. They could include all of those minor upgrades in the lower models, but they don't because it creates a stronger incentive to pay for an upgrade.

With Apple, the biggest reason the macbook air doesn't have a backlit keyboard or 4GB of ram is to save costs to keep their margins up. Also it creates an incentive for people to buy a more expensive macbook pro, or pay $100 extra for the 4GB of ram. Plus, it gives them another selling feature if they decide to bring it back later. Remember when apple removed the buttons from the iPod shuffle, only to promote how great they are when they brought them back?

If apple thinks that the savings they get by removing the backlit keyboard are greater than the lost customers/profits from removing it, then they are better off.

All I'm saying is that if, in the event Apple, or ANY other company REMOVES once-standard features ... to later then call them 'luxary' features ... those companies deserve a big round of boos from us - the consumers. That's a pathetic and cynical way to try to goose sales for your higher end products.

    There should be no refunds.

It's not fair to the developer when users are irresponsible.

This is like the risk of using the 1-Click Ordering feature at amazon.com.

    This is 1-Click from Amazon.com ;)

USB 2.0 is definitely not fast enough to saturate a hard drives speed, it's very limiting.

What is funny is remembering the outcry on the early leaked pictures on the iPhone 4 and how ugly it was... Yet it is the best looking phone in the world now.

Damn right it is. I sold mine a few weeks back but now might buy a white one which I'll keep until I can get my hands on an iP5. I've never considered buying back tech I'd sold before but I genuinely miss holding and using it. Never has metal and glass looked so sexy as a phone.

More important than an "empty" button I would like to see a restore function in the Trash, where you can highlight one or more files or folders and click the "restore" button.

    Disgusting.

I wouldn't mind this UI when iCal is toggles to full screen, but it just looks wrong next to everything else, and totally out of place. I seriously hope they reconsider. Seriously.

    Only slightly off topic

Without using iTunes & ATV, does anyone know of a product where you can wirelessly stream the media contents of any shared volume to the TV? I would imagine such a product would need a PC/Mac side client as well as a TV attached gizmolike iTunes & ATV. I have both anyway, but I was wondering of different options.

considering that amazon sells mp3 format and apple sells their non-universal format, it still doesn't matter to me. Until apple gets real and starts selling MP3s I will continue to buy from amazon. But I guess they don't care.

I guess I have the opposite view of this since I will buy from iTunes as long as they continue to provide a lossless format--and Amazon provides only a lossy format. That is more important to me than a slight price difference. AAC plays on anything I need to play it on--and it could be converted to another lossless format such as FLAC if you really wanted to get out from under Apple's proprietary format. I am also a huge Amazon fan and a Prime member and buy a lot of stuff from them--but not MP3s.
