It's September 1st, 2010 on the east coast, so it's time for a new monthly desktop thread!
Monthly Desktops Guidelines:
For large images use [timg] rather than
Use attachments when necessary so images don't disappear when they are removed from their source
When possible, include links to the full-sized original so others can download them. If you don't want to share, state that in your posts so others don't continue to ask for links.
When quoting a post with images, remove the images to reduce clutter
Please report any posts you feel need attention by clicking on this icon: [IMG]http://images.macrumors.com/vb/images/buttons/report.gif.
If you would like an original wallpaper I would recommend using TinEye (http://www.tineye.com)
Here's the three I'm using right now. I shuffle through them almost daily.

If you consider the details this is of no surprise.
1) Too many still on contract to switch given the release date of the vPhone.
2) Too many see it as full $ for older tech as the next iPhone should be soon.
I honestly think that the iPhone4 will still sell well as it is about to become, what the 3GS is now... the 2nd tier less $$ option. As people come off contracts or their subsidy becomes avail again, people will switch, and the non early adopter types will be happy with a less $ iPhone4 option.
You never know with Apple, but you have to wonder if they will just drop an iPhone4S in June and then we will see LTE next year as Tim Cook said the chips still draw too much power.
An iPhone4S with A5, more mem, 3.7 display, and maybe dual mode, will be be enough for the 3GS crowd coming out of contract and the original iPhone4 will make money on the value shoppers who want an iPhone.
I think the next iPhone, regardless of name (5 or 4S) will just be an iPhone4 with an A5, 3.7 screen, etc as LTE chips still draw too much power and are too big, and Apple can still make money using the same case with a 4/4S line up.

Of course since I don't work there i don't know what all their expenses are. But you can't say just cause the iphone stayed the same price doesn't mean their expenses have gone up. You really don't understand running a business if you think cost of an item is only affected by how much that item cost the business (and that was the proof you gave to me, that the iphone hasn't gone up in price, that AT&T; is solely doing this cause they can and not cause they are reflecting their own price increases).
They have to reflect all of their costs in that price to make a profit. And no, they aren't there to be nice to you. Their prices go up, unless they have some reason to believe they'll lose more business than they will make up by price increase, your prices are going to go up. At some point, regardless of if they think they will lose business they will have to increase the price solely cause they'll lose money otherwise. IT seems you think they should only raise prices at this point. Sorry, they are there to make a profit. They will weight what giesv them the most profit. When they give you a price cut, it's not cause they are being nice. It is cause they think that price cut will drum up enough business to eventually make more profit than they would if they didn't do that price cut.
And my point culminates in that while no, I don't have proof this isn't just cause they can (and you definitely don't have proof cause what you said totally doesn't stand up to reason at all and shows no understanding of running a business), I could easily buy that their prices have increased given that there is a lot of inflation going on (I work retail and i see it in our own prices going up at my store as well as when I buy stuff). If nothing else, they need to make more profit to make the same amount of money as a year ago (as I said, when it comes to inflation, having your wages stay the same = a decrease in pay as your wage doesn't go as far).
Nobody is arguing that GENERALLY SPEAKING prices increase over time...or that most value in business increases over time. This line that I am arguing either is ridiculous
I am speaking about THIS $50 increase. There is absolutely no reason for AT&T; to do this other than to simply get $50 per consumer KNOWING many will break it for the next iPhone. Is it their right? Sure. Can people be miffed about it knowing that AT&T; simply did it to get extra $$$? Absolutely
This idea that AT&T; is doing it because of costs....again, based on what? The general idea of costs increasing? Do you understand how absurdly general and wide that is?
Revenue for AT&T; in the 4th Q of last year was $30+ billion. Excuse me if I have trouble believing that AT&T; is looking to help their costs with a $50 increase.

My last exposure to Notes was 12 yrs ago. We hated it. After 5 yrs, my then company decided to move to Exchange to much hype that it would be a lot better.
It wasn't. I still miss the days of Notes. I've since moved on to two different companies, each of whom have used Exchange. Not once has the Exchange implementation been any better than I remember Notes being more than 7 years previous.
But I will face facts. Notes lost the battle - it is a dead platform for all intents and purposes. As went 1-2-3, so went Notes. It's a shame really because Exchange/Outlook is so terrible, that you'd think anyone with a modicrum of experience could trump it without even trying really hard.
I mean, really, do you need 80% of one of my CPU cores to look up a name in an address book? And how large does the memory footprint of an e-mail app need to be? I often have to shut down Outlook just so compiles will complete in less time. But that will never get better now, because there is no one to push them.

Apple can string on the consumer market, holding back features which their competitors have had for years and take for granted, and when they finally add them, they're already out of date. Sprinkle on some 'magic' and consumers eat it up.
The Professional market use their tools to make money and drive their workflow. If a product/solution like FCS becomes uncompetitive, the customer will move on.
Apple probably know that they can't compete in this space, at least profitably. Both Shake and Xserve are gone. The Macpro on price/performance is really poor value. And whilst FCS is brilliant value, it never really leaps ahead in terms of added features or optimisation.
It's possible that Apple in 5 years time will be a purely consumer electronics company, with no 'computers' in the traditional sense in it's line up. If this bears out, Pro Applications and Hardware, don't really figure into that reality.

Has the movie rental period expired? It typically gives you 2 days to finish watching a movie once you start playing it. Did you play any of the movie after you downloaded it?

I know the reason, or the supposed reason (who knows, Apple has been as tight lipped as ever on the issue) . If true, its a disgrace it made it to the keynote presentation, without the issue being identified or a reasonable fix found. I don't care how you square it - being 10 months late for a device who has an average life of 12 months is utter incompetence and hence disgraceful.
Hats off for Apple sticking to it, but that does not take away from the fact that they should never have made the promise w/o a better understanding of production issues. The iPhone 4 design has been around since at least January per spy shots of the iPad before release. So, its not as if the design was so new that they could claim there was no time to identify the issue until after the June 2010 keynote by Steve Jobs.
This was the first iPhone, and quite possibly the first phone in general, whose enclosure is made almost entirely of glass, besides the buttons and metal band. This is an issue that likely never came up in the past because the white paint on glass thing never really mattered before. I find it entirely plausible that they thought it wouldn't bleed as badly as it seems to.

Just like to say this whole thing has been blown completely out of proportion and we should be focusing on the up coming iMac refresh...
On a completely separate note Jobs, looks hilarious in this photo almost belittling the camera man with that look!
