So... I posted earlier (ordered- 3/11 7:30pm and got a shipment date of 4/1, arriving 4/6) and decided to check my order status with Apple. As I mentioned it hadn't changed (before lunch). Came back after lunch and noticed people saying their order status HAD changed. So I looked again, 3 hours later... STILL NO CHANGE.

Are people really seeing their shipment dates change? Starting to lean toward a lil' BS... but don't want to cast judgment :(

I can assure you 100% my shipment date was Apr. 26 and is now Apr. 21, changed between 1-3pm

Sadly, I remember reading an article a while back that said the number one import beer in the U.K. was...Budweiser. Not the Czech version, but the Anheuser-Busch version. There also stats showing how much their sales were going up, while sales of Guinness were down all around the U.K. It was very depressing. All those lovely beers to import from their own back yard, and Budweiser is the number one import? I haven't seen any numbers on the rest of the EU, though.

    I... don't understand.

Expect software announcements at an Apple special event on 30 January (the consumer release date for Vista, as if you didn't know already). There Steve will talk about Leopard's Top Secret features and the new iLife suite, just so that once MS have stopped kicking themselves after the release of the iPhone and the bruises are starting to heal, they can do it all over again. See Zunes and Vista in bargain bins all over the world (I know that Zunes are only on sale in the US at present, but in order to get rid of stock they will be put on sale everywhere without any software support whatsoever).

I have to disagree with your logic on this. It would be a big mistake to release Leopard, or for that matter have any sort of media event about Leopard on or around the time of Vista's launch. They should wait at least a few weeks after Vista's release.

It's not that Leopard doesn't have the potential ability to out-shine Vista, it certainly does. But as far as public attention goes, with the majority market share held by Microsoft, all eyes will be on Vista, as far as media coverage goes. While Leopard would certainly not be lost in the shuffle as far as Mac users go, any potential press that Apple could garner from it's release would be basically wasted. In fact, I could imagine such a move by Apple could be viewed as an "out of desperation" announcement, to the general (Non-Mac User) public and media alike.

Apple would be much wiser to release it a few weeks later, probably close to a month after Vista's release, at a minimum. That is, of course, if it's even ready to ship.

The microsoft marketing guy says that the parts will be the same except for the bigger hd and hdmi output... So I guess that means it will still be as noisy and likely to break as the current models.

And that means I'm keeping my x360 pro.

guys, I think people are so obsessive about the iPhone because the (US) phone market is kind of pathetic. Most of the really good phones you have to purchase unlocked. Has anybody actually played with the half-assed "chocolate" phone? It's horrible and it's still selling.

Apple has the potential to completely tear up the market. None of the carriers are very mac friendly. Using your phone as a modem usually involves some sort of crack, and it's also hard to update firmware since everything is for PC. If apple can do anywhere near what it did with the iPod but with the phone industry......it's over.

In Belgium, it's forbidden to sell the phone hooked to one provider, and prohibiting others, it's actually quite relaxing not having to worry about hidden fees or restrictions when buying a phone>

But on topic, I think there is definitly a market for a phone with a lot of capabilities, and an Apple designed user interface, because there is not one single phone that has a good quality, and is easy to use. People thought the MP3 player market was crowded and saturated before the iPod came out.

I just hope they stop making product that just have an i in front of what it is. I think a lot of people are getting enough of all this iStuff

It's truly shocking how many empty headed people offer a mac mini as an idea when someone obviously wants an expandable system. He already has a tower and is looking at another tower so spending more and getting what he doesn't want is a solution somehow.. Wow.

Anyway.. some actual advice intended to help you. I wouldn't buy a G5 tower myself as they are far too unreliable. I have posted about this before and they are quite unreliable. This (http://www.macintouch.com/reliability/pmg5.html) link shows extensive research based on actual Apple repair records on G5's. A quick sum up is that even the most reliable one (the dual 2.3GHz) saw 11% go in the shop for one reason or another. The worst model (the first dual 2GHz) saw a whopping 32% in the shop for repair.

Best and cheapest solution in my mind..

Get a G4 MDD dual 1.25 or dual 1.42. Even the dual 1.25 will be a world apart performance wise compared to your single 867MHz. Not quite as fast as a dual G5 but really not all that much slower and much more reliable. A fair price on ebay for these models would be maybe 150-225. I prefer the heavily upgraded Sawtooth I have but it's a much bigger investment than an ebay MDD. Even the low end dual 867 MDD I used to own handled all flash quite well. A 1.25+ won't have any issues with anything you want to do at all.

To each their own.. most of my everyday work, about 70-80 percent is done on the PB G4 - basics.. only handbrake and dvd encoding is done on my 6-core mac pro.. I have no use for video editing, and personally will never touch it because I don't have the time nor desire to learn about it.

Well, I just replaced the 5400 120GB PATA in my PB G4 and replaced it with a OWC Legacy SSD drive and it has brought new life to my power book G4.

I say: Why not? My 2010 Mac Pro seems to love the company of its older brothers, the PPC macs.. and even my Gateway p-6860fx chimes along as well. All of them get along.. none of them hate each other.. why hate ppc? Why hate Intel?? So long as the computer can do what you ask of it, it is NEVER obsolete.

    We should all play nice.

    My Thoughts...

Some of you people here seriously need to **** and chill.

Justin's portrayal of the Mac platform is immeasurably more dignified than Benjamin Curtis' portrayal of Dell hardware. And while I happen to believe that anytime someone communicates in public they have an intrinsic responsibility to do so in a way which casts themselves in the best possible light, I'm certainly not going to rip him to shreds, mostly because of the public perception of the function of blogs.

Moreover, I have never given any thought to the subject of whether he had his own web site or not (many celebrities do). I haven't visited it myself, and therefore am totally unaware of it's content. But I do thank you folks for your attempts at bludgeoning me and trying to drive spikes into my skull over the content there.

Regarding Justin's Mac character being arrogant...

Justin's portrayal is usually pretty neutral and flat with respect to those qualities. He's simply reporting accurate information. Do you think your dictionary is arrogant because it has the exact definition for every word you ever find in it? Is your copy of iTunes arrogant because it has all the precise info on all of your favorite music, including numbers of times played, frequency of playback, etc?

Mac OS X doesn't have any viruses in the wild for it. Mac OS X has no spyware. Mac OS X as a platform is somewhat less severely impacted by pop-up web browser windows, and due to it's design is completely un-impacted by pop-ups not directly related to specifically-viewed web pages. Being a BSD variant and therefore drawing upon the many strengths of F/OSS development community, it is a better-engineered OS. These are not opinions; they are facts. They are demonstrable and quantifiable. The fact that Justin's character states them (which he definitely does do) is nothing more than an accurate representation of our present reality.

Regarding the reference to holidays; and of their general celebration...

Why don't you atheists and non-Christian followers grow a pair already? You want us to respect the fact that you walk the Earth, too, and don't share our religious beliefs, so how about you do the same, ok? And for the record, this country was founded by white, anglo-saxon men who were all of some Christian faith. It wasn't founded by pagans, or Muslims, or Taoists or Shintoists or Buddhists or Atheists or anyone else. It was "God-fearing" Christian men who thought it best to write a document (the Constitution) wherein the rights of each individual person to believe as they wished should not be abrogated by the Government. However, we're referring to society here, not the U.S. Government.

December 25th is Christmas. It has been for hundreds of years, and it continues to be so to this day. Kwanza is a made-up, essentially non-religious holiday for hyphenated Americans who's distant ancestors were from Africa. Chanukkah is a Hebrew holiday, and in fact there are also other Jewish-specific holidays earlier in the year. And even though I don't specifically celebrate them, I will respect them out of respect for those of my fellow human beings who do.

And considering where we are, we really should celebrate January 24th, as it is the day the Mac was released in 1984. You know, I'm going to mark that one down on my calendar and celebrate it. Would anyone here like to propose some suggestions on how that observance (one which is culturally and technologically significant, btw) might be held or handled? I'm serious about this, and am open to any positive, constructive suggestions from anyone without regard to age, race, gender, national origin, or religion. Terrorists and other agents of chaos are, of course, excluded.

I tried it out at the store. There's like a .5 second delay in registering your m
ovement. So it doesn't seem to work too great with twitch gaming as you have to anticipate your move too much.

The fitness one is pretty cool though since it doesn't really matter than much. Didn't get to try dancing, and didn't see anyone do that either since it appears everyone is too shy. But I imagine its similar to the fitness game in terms of operation.

The Playstation one is better for those twitch games imo.

I doubt that is the case since they announced the delay and then started taking preorders. I guess it's possible but why bother taking preorders. If they were waiting they would probably say something to get more orders.Apple took preorders on the original MacBook Pro and gave buyers a free processor speed bump.

    so many questions!

    Available over 3G?
    Movies and TV shows too?
    Bit rate of music?
Includes any music youve ripped to your library?
Subscription based or free? (included in the cost of tracks you buy)
If ripped music too, will apple match up tracks to media they have online and just stream, or will we have to upload our library?

I can see an air version of the iPhone coming soon, wont require same amount of space for storage because its always connected to your online media. It will be a wrist watch.

Budweiser is basically a light rice wine with hops as bittering agents which is better served cold than hot unlike like traditional rice wines such as sake. I doubt it even fits into the lager category but it has been sold as beer traditionally for a long time here. I haven't had a Bud in a few years myself nor do I miss it all that much.

I prefer it's cheaper cousin from the same corporation Busch--there is less hangover. When I go for domestics in the wide range of alcoholic beverages of low gravity I have two preferences those two are Yeunling and Henry's otherwise a nice Scmhidts hits the spot on a warm summer evening. For Imports I like having my Guiness with a scoop of Breyers Ice cream in a float, my Fosters alone, my Angostrua with seafood, my Golsh with any kind of Wurst sausage...pairing is damned important.

Yes, for other phones to succeed, the iPhone needs to fail. I took off my bumper in protest to the haters. Never have a problem and the phone works perfectly without having to change how I hold the phone. It is perfect.

That is a personal preference lee. And despite your opinion there are major differences in quality, taste and process. Btw. technically Guinness isn't a beer according to German standards because they don't have a pure yeast based fermentation but a lacto-bacillus "tainted" fermentation, hence the bitter taste and texture. I had some very interesting discussions with friends in Munich who have brewing degrees and work at some of the major German breweries on this very topic.

Oh definitely. I know they vary greatly. Like I said, the more you pay, the worse it tastes. :) Of course it's a matter of taste. But beer? I simply do not understand why anyone would put that in their mouth. It tastes moldy and gross, and smells like dirty feet. :D

So working in a restaurant makes an opinion like this valid?

No-having tried a ton of different beers because I worked in restaurants does. ;) It's a requirement of the job to know your product. In any good restaurant I worked in, we were required to attend tastings for absolutely everything.

Are people as outraged by this leak as I am? I can't believe it. He just stole Steve's thunder at a later secret event. This will end up costing Apple the element of surprise and the impact of a special Steve announcement. We've got to punish Lion's Gate somehow. We need to boycott all of their films and show that they cannot mess with Apple. The mothership is under attack! Who's with me?

I work for UCSD's Resnet department and I have also noticed a sharp incline of mac users this year. A little under half the support calls/appointments I ge
t now are for macs (which says something about their ability to "just work").

Personally, if I were to buy another computer atm, it would also probably be a mac. The decision is quite simple now that mac's are reasonably priced and can run windows just the same.
