Well what they did was basically add more gestures. I've heard that people noticed that the gestures feel more fluid, but I haven't noticed that.
For instance you can now swipe up with on finger on an icon in the dock to do an 'application expose' and see all the window for the app. Which is quicker than holding down a click on a dock icon in Snow Leopard.
Another addition is that you can now swipe to different spaces. And by swiping to with 2 fingers left or right. And you can also double tap with 2 fingers and you'll invoke mission control.
So I guess that's what they meant by it.

You could do without the RAID-card altogether and just install 4 drives in the bays in the Mac Pro and use the ZFS filesystem (http://code.google.com/p/maczfs/) to make a dynamic stripe in RAID-Z, so you will get RAID-5 like performance but with better protection and data integrity.
You can't boot OS X from zfs, you can't use spotlight very well on zfs, quite a lot of applications/games won't work properly because zfs isn't case-insensitive and there are some more small problems. Zfs is great for a fileserver and various other kind of servers but in a Mac it's still hfs+ that is the best option (even though zfs is a much better filesystem).

Still haven't seen that ad...BUT:
That's not a true 'pop-up', so a pop-up blocker would not have stopped that.

No there's no magnet keeping it closed but I havent found it to be a problem. Maybe for the review cuz Im moving it around so much. But during regular use I have it either in stand position or flapped back. It's solidly built and it made of great quality material. I've ordered another for my wife.

Yea, I suspect the power supply also. It disappears when I unplug it totally (no Gremlins ;-)). It strangely also disappears when I turn it on. I was just wondering if anyone else had this noise? If I am the only one, then I will call Apple abut it.

Does anyone have a facebook fan page set up for your photography?
If you're interested in checking out the fb artist page I set up, which actually includes in progress images of new work I'm putting together, it can be found at http://www.facebook.com/andybloxhamimagery
Mine is at http://www.facebook.com/markhoodphoto - I don't have a proper website as such, as I'm not quite ready to build one yet.
So for me this is really just a chance to get some more feedback, and it keeps the photo people away from the work/regular people :)
I've not allowed people to post links and new items on there though, when I did I got lots of stuff that I wouldn't call spam, but wasn't really my sort of thing. I guess I'm missing out on some interesting conversations that way, but I still feel this is 'my' page, so I'd rather not see people promoting themselves on it... I'll have to re-think that, as it gets busier.

I just hope that iWork is mature enough by then to handle the office needs of some users.
I'm sure that it will be. Remember that Microsoft has recently signed a contract to continue developing Mac Office for the next five years, and that maybe part of the agreement was that Apple would keep iWorks 'underpowered.' But with the 'Numbers' and 'Charts' trademarks, do you not think that maybe iWorks '07 might replace Appleworks, which is no longer supplied with new Macs? A more mature Pages and Keynote plus some kind of spreadsheet app would be fine for the majority of users.

Not being able to control that thing w/ one hand would be really sketchy, and letting go the ubiquitous scroll wheel, which is a proven interface, would be really unfortunate. I'm willing to say that this may be Apple covering some of its bases from other manufacturers...while Apple continues w/ something resembling the virtual scroll wheel mockups we've seen.

Microsoft has announced that it has halted development on a universal version of VirtualPC.
In a statement on Monday, Microsoft said it "has made the decision not to move forward with a Universal version of Virtual PC at this time." -- via News.com (http://news.com.com/2100-1012_3-6102930.html?part=rss&tag;=6102930&subj;=news)
VirtualPC has long-been the king of the hill for Virtualization on Macintosh. With the Intel transition, however, came competitive pressure from Parallels (http://www.parallels.com/en/products/desktop/), which has since released the final version of its product, and VMWare which is showcasing a beta (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/08/20060805151513.shtml) of its solution at WWDC.
Microsoft has claimed that to port VirtualPC to Intel would be much like making VirtualPC 1.0 all over again.
Because of how closely virtualization software is tied to an operating system, Microsoft said that moving Virtual PC to the Intel-based Mac would be "similar to creating a version 1.0 release."

Ha, I remember the days when "EPS" meant Encapsulated PostScript.
I like these days better!
Pretty sure Earnings Per Share predates the the Encapsulated PostScript :)

Look for the Model Identifier:

Identify your Mac and Mac OS X version, visualised in a more elaborate image (http://tinyurl.com/66ah4n6)

MacSales (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/) can also help you to find the correct RAM.
So would the 7,1 mean seventh generation?

thanks, but one thing: for my model it says 'point at 4.3.2 firmware image' - I'm assuming I can download the firmware from here (http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=14568) and use that, even though I never downloaded 4.3.2 via itunes?

Plug in the external FireWire drive and pop in your system restore disc. Restore to the external drive, and when it asks if you want to copy yoru files and settings from another Mac OS X installtion, tell it yes. One of the options is to migrate from "another partition on the same computer." It'll copy over all your files, applications, user settings...everything.
That, or you could go the CCC route. Whichever.

I'm saving up for an 11.6" MBA. I really think it can handle everything I need a laptop for. I want to max out the memory and the SSD, though, so it's going to be a little while. I keep hoping the price of flash memory will come down like every other new technology in the history of electronics has, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen in the foreseeable future. (Problems with the technology? Economic manipulation? Who Knows?) Sure would like 256 GB instead of 128!
The people who won't buy it because they think the Core2Duo is horse-and-buggy technology and the latest processor is the only usable one frankly amuse me. Very few tasks are really hobbled by the processor, and those that are are being performed on desktops. You're really falling for Intel marketing hype. We really have Intel to thank for the megahertz myththey somehow managed to get everyone to quote clock rate as the one and only figure of merit, even as their architecture failed to take advantage of their faster speeds.
I have to say, I guess I'm in a minority on the new MBA's stylingI really don't like it. I hope they don't adopt this extruded-in-a-continuous-slab-and-cut-off-to-length-with-the-raw-ends-exposed look across the board.

Any info on what they expect for tomorrow?
They won't ever say. It seems like you may have to line up tonight and stay the night.

Sony needs to make use of the already established and once popular "Walkman" name and make a real iPod competitor.
It's not about a MP3 player or media player anymore. That is last centuries revolution. Now it's about multi-function devices.... smart phones, tablets, integrated entertainment devices like the iPod Touch.
It will be interesting to see how the next 10 years shake out.
