Just got a call from the Best Buy that I preordered from this morning. They are backtracking somewhat. They have stopped taking any preorders, and he said that they "were not aware that AT&T; had halted preorders" when I placed mine this morning. He said that they guaranteed my preorder, but he could not guarantee that I would get it on the 24th (although he said that I could very well get it that day anyway).
I pressed him for more details, and they had taken 25 preorders before they stopped taking them. I was preorder #21. So, now I'm hoping that the report about each store getting 45 phones is correct. If not, then I'll probably have to wait. If they get at least 25 phones in for the launch date, then I'm guaranteed to get one. He told me to check back on the 22nd or 23rd, and he would know if they received enough phones to fill my preorder on the 24th.
I guess that my best chance is to still stick with the Best Buy preorder, since the Apple site has pushed the shipping date back to July 14 now.

I would suspect perhaps the iPhone available with several different carriers. Do you really think Apple would go the MVNO route with only one phone to sell? Unless a smattering of iPhones are coming at us, I would suspect that it'll available just through GSM carriers. However, Apple could look to minimize risk by taking a bunch of money for exclusive rights to say, T-Mobile, but it doesn't seem like the Apple thing to do.
Helio, a new MVNO carrier using Sprint's network, launched this May with just two phones. While they are not homemade phones, they are super customised, and they are launching another two phones by Christmas. One of their launch models is already out of stock.
I doubt Apple would launch as a Cingular MVNO because Cingular doesn't do that too often. Sprint, I believe, sells its network the most to MVNOs.

who needs 8gb, sheesh. i barely use 2gb of my 4gb of ram as it is. even using photoshop, I have never seen it max out.
I call 4GB the base Minimum RAM. I have 8GB on my MacPro for CAD and Photoshop. It gives things (including OS X) room to breath, and not create loads of swap files. In other words you dont get as many damn spinning beach-balls!

It may also come to the point that if oil demand greatly exceeds available supply by a large margin (ie China, India, and Brazil keep growing like they are) a viable alternative will arrive before we can get to those reserves.
If that viable alternative requires abandoning petrol-based fuels, then the market could essentially disappear. If both can be distributed concurrently, then the market will readjust to such a point that it probably wouldn't be cost effective to drill most of our deeper resereves.
One of the main research areas in the US since the wars is nanotech materials. Carbon nanotubes (now used in some sports equipment) is said to be possibly like 100 times stronger than steel. If they ever get a fraction of that that soon, maybe there will be strong "pipes", or even underwater structures that can mine oil that's way deep in water. But I think that once something like this comes up, the price of oil overseas will drop to be "competative" and we will still go about messing arround in other ppl's matters. The only difference is that the leaders there will distribute "less" of the oil wealth to the country. But there has to be a balance point on how much you can "steal from the ppl" and how much you need to "quell uprisings", if you catch my drift. ;)

if i'm paying for a digital subscription, there's no reason why i should also have to look at ads.
i can see why there are ads for a print edition, due to printing costs, paper, and shipping, but none of those exist for a digital edition.
The price you pay for apps won't pay the bills, and advertising by itself won't do it either, especially online advertising, which brings in much less revenue than print ads. So if you want original content with original reporting, those
content producers and editors have to paid somehow. It's going to take a combo of subscriptions/apps and advertising.

I say it's standing traffic. When you're saying that you see no braking lights you should keep in mind that manual gearing is VERY common in Europe, so when your car is standing still, you do NOT have to keep the foot on the brake, and you'll not have the braking lights flashed.

In recent history, say the last five years, has Apple ever released new products in the Holiday belt (between Thanksgiving(US of course) and Christmas)? Nothing for me comes to mind.
But I do recall that Apple has head the release of new products for MacWorld when you'd think that they just missed the boat of the holiday shopping season.
My thougth is that the Apple intro will take the wind out of the Zune's press releases. So, how about 6G iPod introduction date = Zune Intro date + 7 days.

•Mail and iCal updated to resemble Mobile Me
•Interface updated to resemble Mobile Me (more helvetica, less gloss)
Would Be Nice:
•Major focus on graphics performance. Perhaps of a way for an 3D App (i.e a game) to monopolize the CPU and GPU, like in Windows.
•Dropstack and tabs in Finder, to obviate the need for Path Finder (for me)
• New File System, whatever they started to work on after the ZFS licensing fell through.
• Bring back the normal audio/video controls in the Finder
• Tags
• iChat removed from the OS. New Mac and Windows versions with FaceTime, available immediately.
• Faster way to switch to Bootcamp in the Apple Menu (this was a feature in a beta, and they took it out.)
• Better-looking folder icons with COLOR that stand out.
• Resolution independence
• Quicktime X with 7's features; Quicktime 7 gone

• Copy and Paste in Finder

I am still not sure if the picture is just playing tricks on my eyes but when comparing the pictured MacBook pro in that banner to mine and the ones on the Apple website they do appear the be diffenrent.
That would be nice.
I agree, the speaker grills are definitely smaller...good sign for me at least, I'm waiting on a new MacBook Pro!

While carbon fiber would make an ideal material for a larger iPod model or the iPhone, the exorbitant production cost of carbon fiber structures (especially the need to use an autoclave to "cure" carbon fiber) would make Steve Jobs blanch and he would drop the idea in no time flat.
The use of Liquidmetal would probably make more sense, since the production costs are way lower.

Okay, short of bow ties: Take a business card, turn it vertically and write "MacRumors" (or "MR") on the back, near the top. Insert it in your badge holder behind the plastic badge.
If you don't have a business card, they can be found in abundance on the Expo floor. ;)
