    File->Take Screen Shot

Thanks. Though it is quite cumbersome compared to the keyboard shortcuts to take screenshots (http://guides.macrumors.com/Taking_Screenshots_in_Mac_OS_X).

Okay, so perhaps the title is a bit vague.

I've enabled the lock rotation/mute switch plist mod on my iPhone 4. However, when using the switch as a rotation lock switch, there's a blank black icon in my multitasking menu where the "Mute on/off" button should be.

Could somebody SSH/iFile/whatever the icons for the multitasking mute on/off button for me and send them this way? Likely to be in:

    "/System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app"

The rotation lock icon is under the name, "RotationLockButton-iphone.png" and "RotationUnlockButton-iphone.png" if that helps at all.

Thanks a bunch for any help! It'll save me a heck of a lot of grief. Downloading a 600MB file on terrible satellite internet is like pulling teeth.

Howdy. I have a Logitech G5, Logitech G9, and Razer Lachesis. I love 'em all but none has a Mac driver. :(

Do you use a laser mouse? If so, which do you use?

(I don't game, but the higher sensitivity works nicely for larger screen resolutions and some graphic design)

Thx!The problem isn't necessarily a mac driver, but Apple's Acceleration Curve. It works perfectly with Apple Mice, but not so much with other's. Now assuming that your issue is tracking issue and not customizable buttons, then my solution will work for you. Download USB overdrive and install it. If I remember correctly, you will have to restart your mac after installation. Now their is a free and a paid version, the free will work just fine. After installation, you can change the settings under system preferences -> USB Overdrive.

In the picture below, you will see two sliders. I find it helpful to have the top slider near the far right, and the bottom slider near the far left. I believe I also set the mouse speed (found in the normal mouse settings) around the middle, but you can set it anywhere.

As far as mice with mac drivers, I recently purchased the Logitech wireless m510. I am normally picky when it come to mice, but I do enjoy using it. After installing the logitech driver and uninstalling USB Overdrive, the mice works nicely. I've only had it for a few days, but I love it.

Thanks for the info and links. I haven't played in a while either, but I had the sudden urge :) This site maybe of interest to you: www.gobase.org They have a nice database of pro games.

I've been to gobase.org. I didn't study that much, and was much more interested in reading books and just playing. Maybe if I have the time to really get into it in the future I'll try to analyze pro games. However, looking at them at my current skill level would probably just confuse me. :)

As long as Jobs announces that they are in fact "shipping today" then yes, the Apple Stores should have them immediately and you would also be able to order them from the onliine store.

There is talk that iLife might be previewed today, however not released yet, as it might have some tie-ins to Leopard and will be released at the same time as 10.5 instead of today.

that is, of course, unless Leopard is to be announced as available at the keynote. (Which it won't be.)

"How about economics? The greek symbol represents elasticity of demand. The vertical axis (TR) represents total revenue. If this is the case, the horizontal axis would actually be the reciprocal of the price of the product. The graph, therefore, shows what is happening to total revenue (total expenditures on a good) as you raise the price of the good. When the elasticity of demand is less than one, total revenue rises as the price rises, when the elasticity of demand is equal to one, total revenue remains constant, and when demand is elastic (greater than one), total revenue decreases as the price of the good increases."

Didn't see this posted yet, I would hate to be on the Comair plane as it gets whipped around. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the collision of an Airbus A-380 and a smaller plane at John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Air France Flight 7, bound for Paris, was taxiing on a runway Monday night when its left wingtip struck the tail of Comair Flight 6293, which had just landed from Boston and was taxiing to its gate at Kennedy, one of the nation's busiest airports.

    There were no injuries.

Both planes were being inspected Tuesday. Pilots and crew will also be interviewed.

Passenger Lawrence Grotts was on board the Air France plane.

"It really felt just like a speedbump or like hitting a pothole -- a jolt -- but it didn't feel right ... like that shouldn't be happening," he said.

The NTSB said it has requested the flight recorders and will review air traffic control tapes and what is known as ground radar data.

The double-deck Airbus A-380 had 495 passengers and 25 crew members on board, Air France said in a statement. The Comair CRJ 700 Regional Jet had 62 passengers and four crew members.

"This incident only caused material damage to the two aircraft," Air France said. The airline said it is assisting the NTSB.

Maxine Lubner, chair of the aviation department at Vaughn College, said communication could have been a problem.

"When the plane, the A-380, was on the taxiway, Alpha, it's under FAA control," she said. "The regional jet may have already been switched to the company's frequency."

Lubner said the Air France pilots should have been able to see the smaller aircraft.

Don't buy AppleCare on eBay unless you can get the box.

Even that is not good anymore since Apple may ask for proof of purchase and a receipt from eBay auction is not accepted. Amazon is a good place if you are looking for cheap, yet legit AC.

    30 second fix

duplicate layer, layer mask, invert mask, brush in afflicted area on right side, adjustment layer of levels

new layer, clone brush / black paint brush over the white fringe edge that is left

    BAM

    awesome! thanks.

I knew there had to be a way and I was at my wit's end b/c I couldn't make it work.

I do appreciate it and I'll make sure to credit you in helping me when I explain to the client. As much as I wanted to do it myself, I just had to ask b/c this photo deserves to be fixed properly :)

Clearly, an external HDD is the answer. For the $100/month you're spending on cloud services, you could buy a TB of local storage each month.

Even better would be a NAS system -- basically a dedicated file server on your local network. There are lots of products out there. Drobo is a very popular one. There are a couple advantages to this approach. You can configure the system for RAID or similar failure protection, along with hot swapping drives to replace failed drives. The data is also readily available without the hassle of locating and plugging in a portable drive.

I find the NAS approach to be particularly useful for photo and video storage. You can actually do your editing directly off the network drive, or you can easily move the file over the network to the local disk in order to speed up processing. I use Lightroom to work on photo files stored on a network disk, and it works out very well.

Processor: bus speed I originally had this, but couldn't find it for every model. I'll try and add it.
Memory: how many open slots I was considering doing another 'Upgrade Guide', but perhaps one great big one would be best...
HD: speed of HD Something I got rid of purely because I couldn't find the speed of the Mac mini's (is it that bad? Again, I'll try...
Optical: speed of Superdrive *adds to list*
Display: external monitor spanning vs. mirroring Is this really needed, as you can usually hack it anyway.
    Price: US$ as well *cough*
Ports: PowerBooks have a PC card slot; also maybe a separate category for audio to do list.
Notes: maybe make a separate box for "Last Updated" good idea.

...enter the specs you want (i.e. combo drive, FW800, USB2, 128 MB Vram), and then it would give you the various machines that can be configured that way, with prices... I was planning on doing something similar eventually. Maybe the ability to turn columns or rows on and off.

How about having a seperate BTO column, instead of cramming it in with the standard config? What are your thoughts on that?

No 1,000,000 on this one. (see my other one) Just for animation category, not 1,000,000 category. Or- if you watch it for long enough, it will rotate 1,000,000 times!!!

Any post with more than five punctuation marks in a row should be redirected to a page that says in big animated letters, on the edge of a volcano, with dancing hamsters next to it, the following quote:

Five exclamation marks, the sure sign of an insane mind. - Terry Pratchett

Anyone have any suggestions for an external Hard Drive enclosure that uses Firewire 800? I just got a Western Digital 250 gig I need an enclosure for...something to match my 17" Powerbook would be nice. And great stores online with good prices? I've never bought one before...

    Thanks in advance!

Ended up getting what I wanted, 32gb black wifi. Was around 35 to 40 in line. Once the doors opened I was in and out by 5:30. Granted I could have gone to best buy or target to get but I actually like buying at apple store. Guess it's the experience and the people.

My guess - either a defective hard drive or bad PSU. Is the sound louder near the upper left of the machine? This is where the PSU is. My '10 i7 iMac makes a faint buzzing at low brightness when its hot from sustained CPU load. Not obtrusive, though.
