What are they going to do?
Make an aluminum frame?
INclude a tiny aluminum remote with few buttons?
Build the ATV inside?
Let you calibrate it and configure it from the computer?
Video conferencing?
Put nice speakers inside?
Give it a much higher resolution that doubles as a nice computer monitor?
I don't see this stuff as having a big market.

WWDC has always been a software conference, the hardware you see on the 1st day are for the consumers (and fanboys), the remaining days are always software focused ... Thats why its from 6th-10th :rolleyes: ... don't get it twisted, not every developer desires the new releases of hardware at every wwdc.

Yea ok. The new iPhone is the highlight EVERY year, and will be again this year. Fanboy my ass, it's the highlight of the event, everyone knows it, and if wwdc comes and goes without even of mention of new iPhone hardware, APPL is going to take a dive.

I like your idea and I think it would work in many situations if there is indeed going to be a "transition phase" toward a new type of connection format. However, I'll stick by my prediction as it offers the maximum benefit for Apple and its third party partners while keeping the whole user interaction simpler and more elegant. The Nike situation is different in the respect that it is really the only way to make a product like that work–can't have a bunch of wires getting in the way of running. I know the iPod Hi-Fi probably isn't selling well enough for Apple to worry that a new connection format would hurt their own profit margin much, but there are a LOT of third party partners out there that have only recently given it their best because Apple has probably assured them that the dock connector will be around for quite some time, so third party R&D; won't be a black hole or recurring expense in that area. It is what has helped the accessory market evolve to the point it has, which has benefitted Apple immensly-don't think Apple doesn't realize that fact! It is also what is missing from the also-ran MP3 manufacturers: not enough consistency to make it worth their investment to produce for those products.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Of course, it COULD have both....

The fact is, we've been through this before. The iPhone 1 was going to be a huge failure because it didn't have 3G. They were concerned about coverage and battery life. It's the same issue now.
People are saying apple should make those sacrifices now to keep up with technology. But nobody is addressing the fact that apple has historical evidence that this is a sound approach.
So many people just love to see every issue from the Apple perspective. There are people who get paid for that. Should not you - as a consumer - care more about the gadget you want than Apple success?
Using two separate chips eats battery life. Not to mention LTE is still "just" coming out, so it won't be widespread enough to take advantage of it until 2012 anyway.
Apple does not have to use two chips. They could just design separate phone for Verizon (just like iPhone 4) which does not support GSM. Not ideal but that's where technology is today. At least Verizon customers could enjoy iPhone 5 with LTE.

Sure you can. What you can't do is grab stuff and assume that it does the right thing without checking it for yourself. That's equally true for software developed in house, or developed by subcontractors or commercial partners. It has little at all to do with public vs. private source code.

I can only suggest you look at the history of other nations, it happens quite often that complete economic systems collapse. Try Mexico, Argentina, Germany or any war torn nation. In these nations those with gold maintained their wealth, those without had to start from scratch.
None of those examples had any impact on the larger global community and had no long-term impact on the price of gold.
Thinking that gold is some sort of hedge against a collapse of the US economy is ignoring the larger reality. When the US catches an economic cold (like we have now), the rest of the globe catches the flu. Just read the statements made by all the European leaders who tried to explain why their stock markets were down so much this month. They blamed it on the US housing market. Where will you go to sell your gold? The answer is nobody will be buying because the global economy will be devastated.
But the bottom line is whatever gives you comfort in uncertain times has a value in itself. If spending your money buying gold gives you peace of mind, then it might be worth it. As you say, when the eventual collapse in the price of gold happens, at least it will have some value ($350 an ounce), which is more than you can say for Enron.

I have a baseless, out-of-left-field prediction that I think would increase the Mac marketshare even further:
I think Apple and Microsoft will partner to include Virtual PC in Leopard. I can see them doing it as a BTO pre-install (like iWork), either Virtual PC alone, or with an XP/Vista bundle.
I can see no reason why Microsoft would have such a hard time with a virtualization program when little old Parallels can do it so quickly. They state they are "working with Apple to determine the future of the Virtual PC roadmap" or something like that. It would allow Apple to leverage the new "big plus" of having Windows run in virtualization, but it would force MICROSOFT to support it.
Everyone wins.

Those look really slick, how do you like them so far?
I love them! I've met the couple that makes them and they're all done by hand. Very sturdy and obviously, very beautiful. They look great on a shelf and feel even better in my hand.

Wish I could get my taxes done, worked 3 jobs last year and only got my W2 for one of them :( didnt make much though...probably about 4k so maybe a $200 refund if that. Anyone have a guess? I always mark no dependencies or whatever so they take all the taxes out.

Sprint's CEO has already said they'd be open to switching over to LTE in the future, which they really should do or end up being left behind in a similar way to their CDMA situation (except without Verizon to back them up).

oh, I forgot to mention one good thing about this mouse. Presumably it will work correctly with the option "allow bluetooth devices to wake this computer." 3rd party mice wake the computer up over and over ever since 10.4.6 when that option is checked. Of course, it would be nicer if apple would just fix their stupid OS version so that all BT mice worked correctly and not just their own... :rolleyes:

You don't get final versions of the software they release in the dev program.
The Gold master will not get software updates post release date.

Last quarter... people were buying iPhones at a rate of over 200,000 per day. It doesn't matter what they look like... or what time of year it is... Apple will sell iPhones.
Even if the iPhone 5 looks the same but has upgraded hardware inside when it comes out in September... someone will buy it just like someone bought the iPhone 4 from January to March.
Do you have to upgrade to a new model every year? No.
But somebody is always ready to buy a new phone.
BTW... the 3G and 3GS looked the same... and that did OK.
I personally believe these days that the look of the phone comes secondary to what is "under the hood".
Yes it helps if it's a good shape with a good screen but if Apple continue to release devices that a technically better the the rest then people will lap it up - the death grip didnt stop so many iPhone 4s being sold did it - people accepted it as the device packed a punch
