I'd be all for something like this. Normal 3D displays are useless to me, I have an eye condition that doesn't allow me to see 3D. So I should at least have SOME 3D fun.
I'll second that. I am also what they now call as having "3D Blindness" where I cannot see 3D effect with glasses. This may prove to be the better way to provide 3D effect where "everyone" can experience it. Current 3D tech using glasses leaves out a good percentage of the population. Plus, no need for glasses is an advantage in itself.

Revamped finder, pretty pleaaaaase...
There better be some improvements in the Finder and in Spotlight. That should go without saying.

Yep, it was definitely great to meet up with the MR folks and put some faces and names to the handles and avatars.
(Now, why do I look so creepy in the photo?)
I'll try to make it over tomorrow to see some of the stuff I missed today (mostly North Hall) and have another chat, but I can't guarantee it. I'll have to see how my day goes.

I work for BestBuy/GeekSquad, so let me confirm that that yes, we'll be selling iPhones at launch, and there will indeed be an employee purchase hold to allow clients to purchase the entire stock for a certain period of time.
You will be able to use rewardzone certificates, store credit, gift cards, anything that would normally apply to other in-store categories.
Also the warranty that BBY mobile sells on the iPhone is pretty decent, it includes ADH (accidental damage from handling) so if you drop the phone, spill water on it or get it wet, crack the screen, all that stuff is covered under warranty.
when something is wrong the genius bar replace the phone on the spot. does best buy do that?

Simply brilliant.
The funny thing is I've made all these jokes about Apple to the horror of the fanboys in other various threads and been attacked viciously! LOL
But none of them seem to be in this thread.
I guess you have to climb out of Steve Jobs' pants leg to join reality. LOL
I predicted from the moment the illegal home invasion happened at the request of Apple that this would come back to bite them in the ass PR wise.
You can debate the illegality of the found iPhone until the cows come home, but this action by Apple is worthy of complete and utter ridicule and derision and makes Steve Jobs look like some cheap ass 3rd world dictator having a self-centered temper tantrum because his keynote got leaked!
POLICE POLICE, MY KEYNOTE GOT LEAKED! BREAK DOWN THE DOOR! LOL
And sure enough, Apple is the laughingstock of the world and on Leno, Letterman, and now John Stewart's Daily Show.
Thanks John, brilliant, couldn't have said it better or certainly funnier myself. :)

The edges of the screen looks dark, :(
The plastic protective cover is still on, maybe that and the picture's angle is affecting how the screen looks.

... I don't think it would be very useful. I would still need the full function of my regular keyboard while doing these other things...
Assuming this does come to fruition - I think you're missing the point. I don't believe for a moment it would be desig
ned as a reasonable substitute for a full-size keyboard. I think it's for being able to lay down a few notes when working on some tracks on the road. Then come home and have a full-sized set up you can plug in to.
Think "in addition to" not "replacement for"...

Awww I'm getting a MacBook on the 21st of January, what if iLife 07 is announced on the 22nd ? :(
They'll likely slip an extra disc in the package and you'll install iLife '07 separately.

Hello,
I don't want to start a Mac/PC/Hackintosh debate. Yet what those hackintosh prove is that Apple is charging a "Mac Pro tax" of around 1000$, +/- a few hundreds depending on configuration. Even if that tax was only 500$ +/- a few hundreds, the question remains: why?
Now don't answer that it's the general Apple tax. How can Apple sell the iMac, which offers very good power (some even rivalling the MP), very good graphics on everything but the base model, an incredible display, more RAM than the base MP model, for a very very good price? Add to that the fact that iMac are rumored to be upgraded in the next few days/weeks with Sandy Bridge.
So again, why does Apple charge that MP tax?

guys, I think people are so obsessive about the iPhone because the (US) phone market is kind of pathetic. Most of the really good phones you have to purchase unlocked. Has anybody actually played with the half-assed "chocolate" phone? It's horrible and it's still selling.
Apple has the potential to completely tear up the market. None of the carriers are very mac friendly. Using your phone as a modem usually involves some sort of crack, and it's also hard to update firmware since everything is for PC. If apple can do anywhere near what it did with the iPod but with the phone industry......it's over.
In Belgium, it's forbidden to sell the phone hooked to one provider, and prohibiting others, it's actually quite relaxing not having to worry about hidden fees or restrictions when buying a phone>
But on topic, I think there is definitly a market for a phone with a lot of capabilities, and an Apple designed user interface, because there is not one single phone that has a good quality, and is easy to use. People thought the MP3 player market was crowded and saturated before the iPod came out.
I just hope they stop making product that just have an i in front of what it is. I think a lot of people are getting enough of all this iStuff

If the iPhone is released the 12th, I really dont care exactly how it looks like or what it does, as long as I can make a call and play tunes, I will order it the second it is released.
Geez I love Apple too but I would actually care what the phone looks like and what it does. As far as you're concerned they could slap an Apple logo on a Nokia Engage and you would snatch that sucker right up. *L*

Isn't Best Buy participating in the pre-ordering program on June 15th? Apple Stores are, as is AT&T.; At both places, the phones will be ready for pickup on the 24th ---AT&T; promises front-of-the-line, no waiting for pre-ordering customers. Of course, you have to pay for it when you order it, but. . .
Best Buy hasn't officially said anything about how the pre-order process will work or when it will start, but im sure they will announce something before the 15th.

Currently, 45% of the electrical power generated in the U.S. is produced by burning coal. Even if cars like the Volt are successful, increased demand for more electric power would likely result in more greenhouse gases being emitted.

I just heard from USA TODAY that best buy store are getting 0-5 units. Obviously it depends on where you are--and this is probably bad journalism as it's not accurate, but take it as you will.
My fianc and I are numbers 8 and 9 at best buy. Still no call from them. We are going in at 10am (when they open) to wait and see what's going on.

when something is wrong the genius bar replace the phone on the spot. does best buy do that?
That's not entirely true. While you will often times find an Apple genius who is willing to do that, (I've seen it many times myself), the Apple warranty agreement reads...
This warranty does not apply: (b) to damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse, flood, fire, earthquake or other external causes.http://images.apple.com/legal/warranty/docs/iphone.pdf
BestBuy's warranty is pretty much a service/replacement plan. Meaning we will first try to "rapid exchange" the phone for you. As soon as GeekSquad checks the phone into the system, a request is generated to send a new or re-manufactured iPhone from our nearest repair center to the BestBuy store you request. This process normally takes about 2-3 days. When that happens if fulfills the service portion of your warranty contract.
If our repair center is out of new or re-manufactured iPhones then the system alerts that GeekSquad agent and then will send you to customer service to exchange your broken phone for a new one.
I normally recommend people purchase BestBuy warranties on Apple products that are capable of having the ADH warranty on them. Which are Laptops, and iPhones. Reason being, if you drop it, it's definitely covered. And you can still take it to any Apple service center to get repairs made as long as you're still within your Apple care warranty.
If you get an iPhone from BestBuy and you're still within your Applecare warranty or you find a polite Apple genius, then nothing is stopping you from trying to get a damaged iPhone exchanged. The only real difference is that BestBuy explicitly guaranties that it will either be repaired or replaced, whereas Apple says they will not repair/replace it, but normally make concessions.

Exactly. MAYBE I'd do like 2 buck "rental" where they stop working after a couple days. I guess you could always do a DVI to HDMI cable for your TV couldn't though huh?
