Ebay sucks, and so does the seller. And for that matter, the people that think this is cool, to rip someone off by being deceitful,, can take a leap!
In all fairness.. people need to learn how to read. How in your right mind do you place a bid of over $400 without even READING the description. As much as this is a scam.. the guy deserves to lose the money for being stupid.

TJ Maxx isn't selling them at a loss. TJ Maxx however is diluting the perceived value of the iPad. That's something all manufacturers -- not just Apple -- look to protect.
It's exactly why Amazon forces you to put some things in your cart to see the price. Amazon can't advertise a product below Price X, according to their agreement with the manufacturer. If they did, Amazon would be diluting the perceived market value of the product, which would force other resellers to follow suit. This forces the market price lower, and then resellers start putting pressure on the manufacturer to lower THEIR price (to resellers) so the retailers/resellers can maintain healthier margins.
It turns into a race towards the bottom, where a product gets commoditized. Manufacturers try to avoid that at all costs, because they only have a few products where they can sell at a high-margin or premium, for so long, before competition creates a pressure to drive the price down.

Revenue for AT&T; in the 4th Q of last year was $30+ billion. Excuse me if I have trouble believing that AT&T; is looking to help their costs with a $50 increase.
Looks like somebody doesn't know how to read an annual report.
AT&T; (the whole company) generated $31.36 billion in revenue for ALL of 2010.
(2010 Q4 total revenue (wireless and wireline) was $9.6 billion, with $6.6 billion of that allocated to capital expenses.)
Of the $31.36 billion earned in $15.18 billion came from the wireless unit.
The rest was from wireline (U-Verse) services.
Out of that $31.36 billion, AT&T; had $20.3 billion in capital expenses.
That leaves just a hair over $10 billion for upgrades and any new R&D.;
Their LTE roll out is expected to cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $19 billion dollars.
So yeah... they need the money to expand while remaining profitable.
The question is, who is willing to pay it?
My guess is most will and AT&T; knows it.

The Toshiba HD-DVD deck had to have a firmware update to keep it from crashing due to Microsoft's usual software krappiness in the form of the iHD software.
The firmware update had nothing to do with iHD software.
Both the current HD-DVD and Blu-Ray machines aren't using the greatest chip decoders which are causing both to not truly output at 1080i, let alone 1080p.
Any 1080p television worth anything can easily deinterlace the 1080i signal from the Toshiba HD DVD player with zero image degradation. There simply is no difference. The 1080p vs. 1080i thing (for HD DVD and BD) is a myth.
While it is true that Sony is shipping titles in MPEG2 until they bring out their own hardware, once that happens, the encoding in H.264 will be noticibily better than the HD-DVD titles that will continue to ship in Microsoft's inferior VC-1 (ahem, Windows Media 9) codec because Microsoft in truth is supporting HD-DVD simply because it uses the Microsoft iHD software instead of Java (like Blu-Ray does) and thus earns royalities with each HD-DVD deck shipped and every VC-1 encoded movie title also shipped. While Blu-Ray spec wise supports VC-1 (in addition to H.264 MPEG4 and MPEG2), it will be a very cold day in Hell when Sony decides to ship a Blu-Ray disc encoded in VC-1.
The moral of the story is to pick up a Blu-Ray deck when the second (or third) generation hits, and only buy discs encoded in the H.264 codec instead of the current MPEG2 versions. At that time, HD-DVD will be as useful as a Philips CD-i deck or a Circuit City DIVX player.
Sony has not stated any plan to use H.264 encoding. No studio has stated any plans for H.264 encoding either. It's either MPEG-2 vs. VC-1, and if you've watched anything on HD DVD, you'd know it's capable of amazing results. Compared to all available Blu-Ray discs, VC-1 beats MPEG-2. A better Blu-ray deck will not make the crappy MPEG-2 discs look better, because the problem is with the disc, not the player. Even when BD50 discs are viable (some day!), they'll still use MPEG-2. Warner, who has already released VC-1 encoded HD DVDs, will be releasing the same titles on BD in... you guessed it... MPEG-2.
Furthermore, iHD is apparently much easier to develop for than BD-J. That's one reason why there are already HD DVDs with interesting new features (like the "In Movie Experience" on Bourne Supremacy) vs. no new extra features for any BD discs, nor are there any discs announced with new (BD-J) features.

Three possibilities:
a) Stolen stock.
b) Purchased directly from a "contact" in China.
c) Purchased using surplus advertising budget, so even if they loose money selling them it wouldn't be a loss. This could be the reason why there's limited stock, only a few units available at a time for each store.
I may get one for my wife anyways. She wouldn't need more than 16GB for sure.

It's a bit long, but this is a good read about the state of FCP by Philip Hodgetts (http://www.philiphodgetts.com/2010/09/what-should-apple-do-with-final-cut-pro/):

If it was priced more in line with Avid Media Composer or Avid Adrenaline I'll bet dollars to doughnuts it wouldn't have become as popular. Apple's typical method of operation when it comes to the ProApps is buy existing software, rebrand it and drop the price dramatically. The most recent, and most radical example, is Apple Color. Apple took what was previously a $25,000 color grading application and tossed it into the Final Cut Suite at no extra charge.
ProRes has only be around since FCP 6 and is one of the few additional features that Apple can really hang its hat on. While Premiere doesn't have any first part codecs along the same lines as ProRes it is more flexible and open to third party codecs than FCP is. A very good, and very popular, 3rd party codec is CineForm.

While I remain hopeful, the HD Podcasts have been available for a while (my earliest one is dated 4/9/07).
