What is iLife 07 gonna do that you can't get in 06.

I was really hoping for more themes in iMovie. I have a project due next week and I was really counting on having new themes available to use. It is amazing that there still aren't any holiday themes available from Apple.

I'm also looking for better Podcasting support in GarageBand and iMovie (for video podcasts). iPhoto works very well for me--I have over 10,000 photos over 6 years of my son's life in there. iWeb needs improvements too.

So i'm personally hoping that 2-4 week delay = the new processor in the iMac.

Speaking of which, I just had a strange thing happen in the Belgian online Apple store. I was looking at the bottom line MacBook Pro and trying out options. Then I saw shipping time was 5 days, without any special options.

I went to the U.S. online store and tried the same, but it said 24 hours. So I went back to the Belgian one and now it also said 24 hours.

So 5 days from now, that's the 8th, which is after the keynote. Make of it what you will, but here's to hoping for new MBPs :)

Btw, before anyone asks: I didn't think to make a screenshot.

You mentioned a 42" TV. Not sure why that is ridiculous, as many users sit under 30" away from 27 and 20 inch monitors.

I have used kinect on 32inch, 42 inch and a 54 inch sets.
Of course the 54" is optimum, but the 32 inch is still enjoyable.

For a first generation device I am very pleased with the new toy.

My point was you have to stand so far back from the sensor that it can be difficult to read a 32" HDTV as your pushing into 40"+ recommended minimum screen size.

Jon Stewart is an unimaginable idiot. He strikes me as fairly bright person, who like all TV talking heads, is intentionally stupid on TV, which is why I cannot watch.

His opening comments forced me to shut it off before even getting to the part about Apple....if he doesn't know by now that Obama is aiding in dismantling the Constitution, just like Bush did, just like Clinton did, just like Bush before that, then you're either an idiot, or intentionally trying to deceive and divert people, and for both reasons I cannot watch Jon Stewart.

Wait so, how are we supposed to report No Coverage in an area with, well, no coverage?

The app supposedly puts a GPS tag on your submission and holds the report until you're within coverage area. But as someone already stated, sometimes the GPS is non-functional as well.

I think this is a step in the right direction. I just got back from Ohio, and the place I was staying at had maybe one bar of EDGE on a good day. I'm eager to try this app. I have lots of odd coverage anomalies where I live, and this might signal the start of some improvements.

To all those people who say that AT&T; should be fixing the problem on their own, how do they know where those problems are unless we tell them?

    Quite a cool update there!

Shouldn't Apple be charging $1 for th
is clear addition of functionality, aka Wireless "n" and Facetime?

Perhaps, but they seemingly let it fly under the radar for a reason, and now its been exposed, what will the repercussions be?

who needs 8gb, sheesh. i barely use 2gb of my 4gb of ram as it is. even using photoshop, I have never seen it max out.

I regularly start paging my HDD with my 3GB RAM, however cant get any more as Im on an older machine. I dream of the day I can have 8GB in my mac and not see it max out.

My brief experience report (German-language) with a little video clip (http://rossau.wordpress.com/2009/10/02/fernsehen-am-iphone-mit-eyetv/): A realtime and uncut demonstration of "Live TV" on two different Wi-Fi networks: EyeTV hybrid tuner stationary on the Mac and the iPhone in the caf (as the background noise clearly reveals). As far as I know the first opportunity for watching "Live TV" on the iDevice outside of north america.

Yeah it can be turned off. It's actually off by default. Not only would it be obnoxious, but could really take some time to load and a lot of overhead to manage.

How about the selected video files play in their icons?

It would be interesting to separate out the corporate vs. personal computer purchases. It is hard for Mac to get much above 5% when corporate puchases are included. BTW, it would be interesting to see how many of those "computers" are just dumb terminals used in stores and schools etc.

Remember, there are lies and there are statistics.

The survey was a consumer survey, not a corporate procurement department survey. So that 18% figure for desktops and 17% for laptops appear to be the percentage of consumers that are considering a Mac purchase. As a poster pointed out above *planned* purchase doesn't necessarily translate into *actual* purchase, but it's definitely an encouraging sign to se 15 to 20 percent numbers for consumer purchases. I think Apple would be ecstatic to get 15% of
the consumer market this holiday season. I don't think Apple is even considering any significant corporate push now. Apple knows it has a much better chance of success in the consumer market.

I think what Eidorian meant was that Apple should lower the price of the Mac mini once Intel lowers its prices on processors. Maybe Apple will even be able to increase the speed a bit while lowering the price (we all know how CPU speeds and prices fluctuate).Intel already lowered the prices back in late May. I don't really see a need for the Core Solo Mini anymore. I'd like to see a $599 Mini with Super Drive...

I have a 2.66 15" Late 2008 MacBook Pro, my firmware matches the upgraded listing to allow 8GB of RAM. Pretty cool :)

AFAIK, the 2.66 has always accepted 8GB. I've been running 8GB in my Late 2008 2.66 for quite some time with no issues.

One does have to remember though, styling is subjective. You may find the Volt to be ugly, but I like it's design. Sure it isn't the best design out there, but considering the Prius, Insight, and other dedicated hybrid/electric models that I can think of( where manufactures design it to be aerodynamic and not stylish per se), I think it is one the best looking of the bunch( easily beats Prius, Insight, etc, but Tesla and Fisker make decent looking vehicles as well).

ironically the most aerodynamic production vehicle currently is the european spec Mercedes E220 blue efficiency diesel.
Gonna be interesting later this year with mercedes (E class) and citroen (3008) launching their diesel hybrids in europe. Mercedes already anounnced that they will be putting them as fast as they can across their line up the next 2 years. It could very well be that when the Volt launches around here that a C class diesel hybrid is already around the corner and thus ruin their good press.

regarding the Volt design i think the front and back view look great but where they really dropped the ball is the side view including the doors/side windows.

edit: can actually anybody come up with a more ugly car than the juke without the Aztek or a SangYong ? honestly i'm hard pressed

Currently, 45% of the electrical power generated in the U.S. is produced by burning coal.

Maybe. But where I'm from, most of our electricity comes from a couple
nuclear plants. There's probably a Burnsian CEO arching his fingers and saying, "Excellent" at the prospect of the Volt being a big success. I'd love get one if I could afford the $40K price tag.

Yeah, fancy that, a nation that still believes in crime and punishment.

"Can't do the time? Don't do the crime".

I 100% agree!!! Criminal laws and processes are always correct and just!!!

    1. If a law is passed criminalizing certain actions, thoughts or beliefs then there's no doubt that those actions, thoughts or beliefs are crimes.
    2. The punishment for a crime is always correct. Punishments are never too extreme nor too lax. Whatever process that has determined the punishment for a particular crime cannot be questions. Because, well, you know: "Can't do the time? Don't do the crime."

Before I start making reports, I'll throw this question to the inter-webs and see what the mob thinks.

When I was with Verizon, I got service everywhere. Never a dropped call.

With AT&T;, I get no service inside big retail stores. If I'm at Target, Walmart, K-Mart, the grocery store, etc, I get no bars and the "No Service" message. As soon as I'm outside the store, I get 100% 3G service and Bars.

My question is, is it resonable to expect AT&T; to try to improve service inside stores?

Number 3 is the crucial one. If they offer full HD quality (1080P) they can kill off the stupid Blu-ray/HD-DVD format war before it ever starts. They could use it to sell masive amounts of Apple branded HDTV capable Apple Cinema Displays as well as Intel Macs to be HTPCs. They could sell massive amounts of storage as well if they go into the external disk drive business.

Considering a 3:13 clip is 255 MB on the Quicktime part of the site, I doubt that it is a viable option. That would end up as around 5GB for one hour.

Kind of looks like America is an empire, doesn't it? America has a military presence all around the world. That's like Rome who had a military presence all around the then known world. At the beginning of 2000, America was so powerful and had so much money under Bill Clinton's control, that if it wanted to, they could have taken over the whole world.

If your point is that the US is overdeployed and has a military presence in countries it certainly has no place being, that is well-taken.

That said, there is a difference in "ruling" a territory (as I take the definition you quoted to mean) and simply having boots on the ground.
