I just love Amazon. They truly are earth's most consumer-centric retail store, as their slogan states.
Here's an example: I had to replace my new 17" MBP 4 times (!!) before finally getting an Apple laptop without issues. First one had serious screen leakage, second had terrible construction (non-adonized aluminum, almost felt rusty), third was great for a week, until it stopped turning on. Fourth seems ok so far, I hope it'll stay that way.
If I had to go through the Apple store, they'd be fixing and fixing the device while I was left with nothing at hand. Had I wanted to return it, I'd probably have paid a restocking fee.
With amazon, I get to keep the first laptop until the replacement arrives.
With amazon, I didn't have to pay the sales tax (not really Apple's fault), plus the item's price was 150$ cheaper than MSRP.
Two-day shipping was free, 1-day shipping was 4$. Again, cheaper than apple.
Amazon actually paid for the return shipping of the laptops. That's 70$ each time!
I think Amazon is poised to become the world's biggest player in retail and beyond. Cloud storage, EC2, S3, free video on demand for prime members, App store for Android, and oh yes - selling virtually anything I am interested in buying.

Does anyone have an idea of what (if anything) this does that Parallels doesn't? Parallels has done a great job and is really great except for the video acceleration. If someone could figure that out and let us play XP games in OS X I would be one happy guy.
I anticipate Fusion to be better than Parallels in the following area,
Virtualization of more than one CPU
Support for more than one network card
Better USB 1.1 implementation
USB 2.0
ACPI
More robust with multiple VMs
Far better customer support.

Is it huge, or is it only 30%?
These are all just rumours anyway.
Well the Samsung Series 9 already uses the chip that CNET is speculating will be in the MacBook Air, so we can compare its graphics performance.

"Readers should realize that while Apple continues to publish patents on technologies that never make it into shipping products, the concepts described in this patent were referenced by Hon Hai chairman Terry Gou in June 2006:"
What other patents does apple have in which they didn't make the product?

Can anyone who listened to the whole webcast tell me if the Product (RED) nano was mentioned? I'm working on a project about it and would love to include a quote from an apple exec.

Bad interfaces based on silly metaphors isn't a new phenomenon at Apple. May I remind you of this abomination?
http://www.dailyapplequiz.com/wp-content/uploads/quicktime_4_player.jpg
To be fair, the brushed metal interface first debuted in 1999 with Quicktime 4.0. Compared to the horrendous user interfaces of the time period, that looks amazing. It is sad though that it took them until leopard to get rid of it...

I've seen the blue screen on XP. It's funny because I've been told by Windows users that
it doesn't exist in XP, yet I witnessed it two weeks ago when a colleague of mine was trying to do something with Adobe Acrobat. The program just spazzed and the blue screen came up.
Your colleague either downloads porn/warez, or there is a potential hard drive physical failure (bad sectors on the disk), or he has crappy 3rd party drivers. Seriously, I've never seen the blue screen in XP and I've used XP since it came out on 3 computers plus work. These jokes on the XP blue screen are so misinformed that the laugh is on the joker. XP is very stable considering how much compatibility it has to provide for the infinite combinations of drivers, software and hardware.

some of you guys make little sense.
-you love apple computers thus the reason why you're here. you defend its price point v. PCs, flaunt the virtues of its beautiful, well thought out OS
yet you guys have so little faith to pretty much say that apple is going to screw the pooch by releasing the next mba with inferior graphics performance? what are you, insecure?
your mba right now is the top dog, but as they say the king is dead, long live the king. i'm looking forward to the update and i'm a 13 ultimate owner. i of all people should wanna put down the next version since i paid $2K out the door for this thing brand spanking new. hahahah we don't even know if it's june or nov or what yet you guys are totally dogging on vaporware. ahahaa
but i won't. never will. innovate, mega corporation, innovate!

I agree that it should be cheaper. Tiger introduced a lot. And Panther introduced Expos.
Actually, you know what I missed out?
SpotLight! ....
Don't have any use for Expose, but I use Spotlight quite a bit.
I think Panther was hit or miss for those first few weeks. Some people had major problems, I didn't.
Panther was fine for me; if I'd stuck with that version, then I probably would have been OK.
OS X "Kernel Panics" are transparent :)
That's a neat trick, but it's still a crash. ... :)
For the record, I've had errors on both ends. XP ones have been a lot more annoyingfor me at least.
OSX was my problem, which I did find surprising.

I spent most of the night last night trying to get gpu2 running in wine on the i7 machine but ran into a problem and gave up. But I have found that the issue may not be with my set up, it may be the wu are bad so I will work on that again tonight to see what happens if I can get a different wu. Here is some info. It was an employee. You don't need to have 'just a hunch' when most of the media reports confirm this. The employee was fired.
I can understand not reading the whole thread, but not reading anything and preferring to make up your own version of events is kind of lazy.
If you look above your post you would be having no reason to assume laziness and insult me in that way which I don't particularly care for. I was simply wishing to weigh in on the situation without reading through all 6 pages since most of the messages contained are rather lengthy. While I can admit I probably should have looked into the facts before replying on them I don't your attitude towards me is entirely needed.
I wasn't making up my own version of events I was simply making an assumption based off of the attitude I saw portrayed in the video and, yes, that assumption was wrong. A fact I admitted above.

First of all, I think this should have been released at most a couple months after the introduction of the Mighty Mouse. Taking a year to give it BT capabilities is ridiculous.
And $70 for a ****ing mouse is absurd. Doesn't look like I'll be buying anymore mice from apple.

The challenge
DESIGN A PHONE!
Conditions
1. Must be black.
2. Must be metal with no sharp edges (rounded edges) and be as simplistic as possible. Camera.
3. Touchscreen (no slide out keyboard)
4. Ergonomically friendly and look nice.
5. User interface to be nice and on par with present day interfaces (no 1990s looking icons).
6. Docking interface.
They are all going to look similar.
MS seemed to be able to get by without appropriating the look of Apple's interface.

nothing has even been released yet. why does a cloud have to run across multiple geographic locations? as long as it's online in the cloud it doesn't matter where it is.
It'll be a pathetic excuse for a cloud if it'll only stream in the US (which if they continue with this 1 datacenter model will be the case). Amazon will beat them here, hands down. Have you seen how many datacenters they have?
http://www.datacenterknowledge.com/archives/2008/11/18/where-amazons-data-centers-are-located/
^ That vs 1 datacenter...lets think...who's going to get the better performance...
Also, the point of the cloud is redundancy. What happens WHEN the 1 datacenter goes down (e.g power problems, network problems, natural disasters, etc)? Apple's will be wiped out in one move, Amazon just fail over to another DC location.

The existing iPods already are lickable, though the 3rd gen controls are a little more convenient than the click wheel and button interfaces. Feel free to take my word on this, and if you feel the need to confirm, remember that it's probably rude in most places to lick someone else's iPod without asking nicely first.
Ok, now I need to see all that in a silhouette Apple add.
